Terms of Service

The deal, in plain English.

Effective July 26, 2026

The short version

1. Who you're agreeing with

Tīlen ("tīlen," "we," "us") is operated by Joel Frain, a sole proprietor based in Pennsylvania, USA. By using tilen.app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. You must be at least 13 years old to use tīlen.

2. What tīlen is

Tīlen lets you build a keepsake website for a trip — photos, stories, and links on a single page — and share it with anyone via a private link. You can use it without an account, create a free account to manage your sites, or pay a one-time fee to keep a site online.

3. Free sites and expiration

Sites published without payment are temporary. They stay online for 7 days from their most recent publish. Republishing a free site resets that 7-day clock a limited number of times (currently 3). When a temporary site expires, its files — including photos — are deleted from our servers, and deletion is permanent. Keep your own copies of your original photos; tīlen is a way to share your memories, not your only backup.

4. Accounts

Accounts are free and use email sign-in links instead of passwords. That means anyone with access to your email inbox can sign in to your tīlen account, so keep your email secure. You're responsible for what happens under your account. One person per account, and you must give us a real email address that's yours.

5. Keeping a site ("Keep it forever")

A one-time payment of $9 per site keeps that site online for as long as tīlen operates. No subscription, no renewal. Here's exactly what that promise means:

Payments are processed by Stripe. Prices may change for future purchases, but a site you've already paid for stays paid — we will never charge you again for it.

6. Refunds

If you're not happy with a purchase, email admin@tilen.app within 14 days of payment and we'll refund it in full, no questions asked. A refunded site returns to temporary status (7-day expiration).

7. Your content

You own your photos, stories, and everything else you upload. By publishing a site, you give us permission (a non-exclusive license) to store, copy, and display that content — solely to operate the service: hosting your site, serving it to people you share the link with, making backups, and letting you edit it. This license ends when your content is deleted from tīlen.

You're responsible for having the right to share what you upload. That includes photos of other people — make sure the people in your photos (or their parent or guardian, for kids) are okay with them being shared on your site.

8. Sharing and privacy of your sites

Published sites live at private, unlisted links, and we tell search engines not to index them. But anyone who has the link can view the site — links can be forwarded. Don't publish anything you wouldn't want a friend-of-a-friend to see.

9. Acceptable use

Don't use tīlen to host anything illegal, and don't:

We may remove content, suspend accounts, or refuse service to anyone who violates these rules. If we terminate a paid site because of your violation, no refund is owed. If we ever have to remove a paid site through no fault of yours, we'll refund it and give you a copy of your content.

If you believe a tīlen site infringes your copyright or shares your private information without consent, email admin@tilen.app and we'll review it promptly.

10. What we don't promise

Tīlen is provided "as is." We work hard to keep it fast, reliable, and safe, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted service, and we may change, add, or remove features over time. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, and our total liability to you for any claim related to tīlen is limited to the amount you paid us for the site in question (or $9 if you paid nothing).

Some places don't allow certain warranty or liability limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11. Ending things

You can delete your sites or stop using tīlen at any time — deleting a site removes its files from our servers permanently. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (your content ownership, liability limits, governing law) survive termination.

12. Changes to these terms

If we make meaningful changes to these terms, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date, and — if you have an account — make reasonable efforts to notify you. Continuing to use tīlen after a change means you accept the new terms. We will never retroactively weaken the Keep-it-forever promise in Section 5 for sites already paid for.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Pennsylvania.

14. Contact
